Whether you are re-facing old kitchen cabinets or installing a complete new bank of cabinetry, the materials you use will go a long way to defining the design aesthetic of your kitchen, as well as the budget for your project.
Whitewashed wood has been making the rounds at the top European kitchen design shows for years. The effect lightens the color of the wood grain and adds a high-end look to your wood cabinets all while looking fresh and modern today and in ten years.
If your cabinets are still in really good condition, a new coat of paint or stain and new hardware, like funky, eclectic knobs and hinges, can do the trick for a fresh new look at a nominal cost. You can also get a brand new look by refacing your cabinets for half the cost of a complete replacement. For a complete replacement though, and if you have the time and patience for it, you can scour thrift stores, cabinetry shops and home improvement stores often for deals on discounted and clearance cabinets. Just be patient until you find what you want.
For cabinetry, homeowners are favoring customized colors that perfectly fit their kitchen spaces. Neutral colors are currently big favorites with tones like grey, yellow and soft greens but don`t count out the darker color pallet. Black, navy, and emerald green has the high-end allure many desire.
